Mission

The Italo Scanga Foundation was established in 2001, upon the death of Italo Scanga. Its purpose is to function as a non-profit charitable trust in the promotion of the visual arts. The assets of the Foundation will be used to promote the understanding and appreciation of art, and to further the education of aspiring artists, including the funding of scholarships. A Visual Arts Scholarship is currently being established in Scanga's name at the University of California, San Diego.

The Foundation's net income and principal will be distributed for such charitable, educational, public, library or research purposes, to and among individuals, societies, institutions, trusts, organizations, associations, and corporations.

The Italo Scanga Foundation is a "Private Foundation" that is tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, and contributions to it are deductible as provided in Section 170(b)(1)(B) of the Internal Revenue Code.

The goals of the Italo Scanga Foundation are:

  • To function as a nonprofit foundation for the preservation of Scanga's artwork
  • To donate major works of art to museums and other non-profit institutions
  • To assist aspiring young artists with scholarships and grant money
  • To help fund a Visual Arts Scholarship at the University of California, San Diego
